Christians in Industry - Experts Panel

For the next keynote, industry experts are discussing their experiences working as a Christian in the secular workplace.

Big Tech Blind Spots (for Christians)

  • be open and authentic to help non-Christians understand our faith
  • we don’t need “Christian” versions of everything
  • you are in a room that is the intersection of two bubbles (tech and Christian)
    • this gives us a chance to see what’s coming

Uniquely Human in an Artificial World

Next: Michael Arena, who is the Dean of the Crowell School of Business at Biola, is discussing being human.

The talk described ways that AI cannot replicate humans and how AI represents a threat.

A Biblical-Theological Framework for Artificial Intelligence - John Dyer

The first keynote of the afternoon session is from John Dyer who is a VP at Dallas Theological Seminary. He’ll be talking about A Biblical-Theological Framework for Artificial Intelligence.

What is technology and What does it do?

Technology enables us to do work differently (enhances our ability to do something). Importantly, as we use technology, it changes us (muscles when using a shovel or AI impacting our brains and critical thinking).

John’s going to walk us through a technological perspective of the biblical story.

  • Creation
  • Fall
  • Anticipation
  • Redemption
  • Restoration

Creation

God has tasked us to order the natural world, and that is good.

The Fall

Anticipation

Anticipation can be an idol Reversing the image of God

Redemption

God deeply cares about redeeming our souls as well as the things we create.

One of the most counter-culture skills we can develop as a human is listening and having empathy.

Restoration

Tech Ethics

  1. We should build.
  2. We should build for human flourishing.
  3. We should build in safety systems and consider misuses.

Competency Development for AI

Tech Futures

Questions, Reflections, and Directions

  • Who do we want to become?

AI and Web3 Panel

This is a panel discussion about AI and Web3. The panel was John Kim (CV Global), John Knox (Gloo), Stuart (Moderator), John Cobb (Ligonier) & Mark Finzel (Biblica)

Triplicate Publishing

  1. Print
  2. Digital
  3. On the Blockchain

One of the panel presenters demonstrated Lightwords, which is hosted on the blockchain.

AI and Web3 offer the ability to provide:

  • Security
  • Privacy
  • Discoverability/Sharing (zero-knowledge proofs)
  • Immediate “out-of-context” or “fake-news” analysis

The impacts exist for:

  • Donors
  • Christians in closed countries

DAO - Decentralized Autonomous Organizations

  • Something that protects the ownership of data but enables sharing and transfer

Web3 –> Greater transparency

AI Agents and Web3 Technology Use Case

  • Give an agent access to an obfuscated crypto wallet to obtain resources.
  • This enables it to perform actions that need resources.
  • If it gets hacked, your liability is limited and you or the agency is protected.

Lessons from the Land of Fundraising: How AI Can Help Solve the Fundraising Crisis - Bryan Brown

Next keynote is from Bryan Brown of Masterworks

There is a major crisis in Christian fundraising.

  • Generational Crisis
    • The demography of donors is changing (getting older)
    • $84 trillion will be transferred, but it’s unlikely to be transferred to nonprofits.
    • Total donor retention is 43%.
    • 72% of new donors don’t make a second gift to an organization.
  • Leadership Crisis
    • 75% of nonprofit execs are planning to leave
    • 30% of nonprofits may close or merge soon
  • Technology Crisis
    • only 11% feel their data is helping them do their work
    • only 10% of nonprofits feel they are digitally mature
    • only 1% of nonprofits have a data scientist

Technology can help with all of these crises.

Four Big Things We Can Do to Help with These Crises

  1. Disorganized and untrustworthy data so data science can be used

    • Get your data organized
    • Keep your data organized
    • Use your data every day
    • Help your data help you
  2. Insufficient Analytics

    • He’d love to see an open-source and democratized option for analytics
  3. Impersonal Donor Experiences

  4. Fatal Allergy to Marketing

There is a paradigm crisis inside nonprofits.

  • Most think marketing dollars are a cost and require a short-term ROI based on increased donations.
  • We must build robust attribution models that help organizations stop being so scared of spending money on things that can’t be measured directly.
