A Biblical-Theological Framework for Artificial Intelligence - John Dyer

The first keynote of the afternoon session is from John Dyer who is a VP at Dallas Theological Seminary. He’ll be talking about A Biblical-Theological Framework for Artificial Intelligence.

What is technology and What does it do?

Technology enables us to do work differently (enhances our ability to do something). Importantly, as we use technology, it changes us (muscles when using a shovel or AI impacting our brains and critical thinking).

John’s going to walk us through a technological perspective of the biblical story.

  • Creation
  • Fall
  • Anticipation
  • Redemption
  • Restoration

Creation

God has tasked us to order the natural world, and that is good.

The Fall

Anticipation

Anticipation can be an idol Reversing the image of God

Redemption

God deeply cares about redeeming our souls as well as the things we create.

One of the most counter-culture skills we can develop as a human is listening and having empathy.

Restoration

Tech Ethics

  1. We should build.
  2. We should build for human flourishing.
  3. We should build in safety systems and consider misuses.
